The New Deal

To combat the severe economic crisis that was called the Great Depression, our country needed a way to pull our way out of it. I came up with a series of policies that were called the New Deal. The New Deal came in two phases. The first focused on relief and recovery from the Great Depression. This was achieved through inflation, agricultural and business regulation, public works, and price stabilization.
The second phase continued all that had been done in the first phase, as well as providing legislation that would benefit the working Americans. It was during this time that the social security system was set up. Throughout all of this, numerous organizations were set up by the government. These included the NRA, the FDIC, and the AAA. Though many of the policies were later pulled down, some, like social security, remain today.

World War 2

At first, I was aiding great Brittan by giving them supplies and ammunition. Our country was not actually in the war yet. That all changed when I cut of supplies and exports to Japan and the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Once we declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on us.
Because of the war, we needed more money and I proposed an idea for higher taxes but congress hadn't raised them as much as I had hoped. Also, I had passed a bill that allowed for Japanese-Americans to be sent to camps similar to the German concentration camp but with better care. During the war, I started to let Jewish refugees into the country. The labor required for the war had provided many more jobs for the people and had helped put an end to The Great Depression, mostly because we were fighting a war in the Pacific and in Europe.
I had tried hard to keep America as far from the war as possible. Some people believe that I tried to put us at war because I was provoked when German submarines attack American ships. I also tried to make the world more peaceful to prepare for after the war. Something I did to help accomplish this goal was to have a meeting between the US, Britain and the Soviet Union. Unfortunately, this lead to the Cold War.
Our country fought with the Allies which consisted of Great Britain, The Soviet Union, France, China and many other counties. Our major enemies were Germany, Italy, and Japan. In the very beginning of the war, France had already been taken over by Germans. The Germans had invaded many countries in Europe by the start of the war. Japan had also invaded parts of China and many Pacific islands. When the war in Europe was near its end, I died before the defeat of Germany and Japan.

The Great Depression

During my time as President, the entire world was in the midst of the Great Depression. It was the deepest economic depression of the 20th century, starting with the USA stock market crash, then spreading to most every country in the world. Black Tuesday, as it is called, began the drop in income, profits, and tax revenue for rich and poor. Unemployment rates rose steeply, some countries experiencing as high as 33%. Those who were hit the hardest were the ones relying on cash crops, heavy industry, mining, and logging.
The world began to recover from this in the mid 1930s. Our fair country itself was getting itself back together in the spring 0f 1933. The reasons for the USA's recovery are varied. Some believe that it was because of gold inflows that resulted from the devaluation of the US dollar. Others attribute it mainly to my New Deal policies, which some are still around today.

Biography

As you may know, I am Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States. I was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park NY. I went to and graduated from Harvard, as well as Columbia Law School. In 1905 I married Eleanor Roosevelt, and we named our daughter after her. I became elected President for the Democratic party in 1932, during the Great Depression and was President for most of World War 2. I was elected 3 more times afterwards. When I was 39, I contracted polio, and I expect to die on April 12, 1945 in Warm Springs Georgia.
