During my time as President, the entire world was in the midst of the Great Depression. It was the deepest economic depression of the 20
th century, starting with the USA stock market crash, then spreading to most every country in the world. Black Tuesday, as it is called, began the drop in income, profits, and tax revenue for rich and poor. Unemployment rates rose steeply, some countries experiencing as high as 33%. Those who were hit the hardest were the ones relying on cash crops, heavy industry, mining, and logging.
The world began to recover from this in the mid 1930s. Our fair country itself was getting itself back together in the spring 0f 1933. The reasons for the USA's recovery are varied. Some believe that it was because of gold inflows that resulted from the devaluation of the US dollar. Others attribute it mainly to my New Deal policies, which some are still around today.
